New Delhi, May 23, 2025 – Indian stock markets slipped sharply on Thursday, with the BSE Sensex dropping nearly 1,000 points to trade around 80,619. The NSE Nifty also declined by 295 points, settling at 24,518.

The selloff followed brief gains earlier in the week and was driven by widespread losses across all sectors, including FMCG, pharma, and banking. Mid- and small-cap stocks faced the most pressure. Major decliners included Mahindra & Mahindra, Power Grid, Coal India, Tech Mahindra, and Wipro.

Analysts attribute the fall to weak global cues, investor caution, and possible profit booking. Market volatility is expected to continue in the near term.
