Premature Baby Battles Heart Ailment, Discharged After 80 Days at Cocoon Hospital Jaipur 1w1w62

National , 09June 2025: In a powerful story of survival, medical excellence and unwavering hope, a premature baby boy born at just 26 weeks and 3 days—facing critical health challenges including a congenital heart defect—has been successfully discharged after 80 days of intensive care at Cocoon Hospital in Jaipur.

Weighing just 860 grams at birth—the newborn faced steep odds. His fragile start to life was further complicated by a condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a heart ailment frequently seen in preterm infants, requiring surgical closure. After being stabilized at Cocoon, he was transferred to a specialised cardiothoracic centre at another city hospital in Jaipur, where the cardiac procedure was successfully performed. He was later brought back to Cocoon Hospital for continued care and recovery.

“This baby’s journey is nothing short of remarkable,” said Dr. Manish Mittal and Dr. Jitendra Jain, Sr. Neonatologists, Department of Neonatology at Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur. “Premature infants born at such a low birth weight, especially with cardiac complications, face enormous risks. This case required advanced respiratory , careful nutritional planning, vigilant infection control and seamless coordination across specialties. Today, seeing him go home healthy and weighing over 2 kg is an incredible moment for all of us.”

The baby spent his first month on a ventilator, endured multiple blood transfusions, and was treated for severe infections with strong antibiotics. The road to recovery was made possible by the combined efforts of a dedicated multidisciplinary team—including neonatologists, NICU nurses, pediatric cardiologists, and an efficient inter-hospital transport team.

His parents, overcome with emotion, expressed their heartfelt gratitude: “We lived every day with fear and hope. The doctors and nurses at both Cocoon and city hospital in Jaipur became our family. They saved our son and gave him a second chance at life. We will forever be grateful” said Nikita Sangai, mother of the baby.

This successful discharge stands as a significant milestone not only for the baby and his family, but also for the medical team that worked tirelessly for nearly three months. The baby, now weighing 2.04 kg, leaves behind the NICU and begins his life as a symbol of resilience and hope

“This case highlights the importance of teamwork, timely intervention, and the strength of the human spirit. Watching this baby grow stronger each day and finally go home healthy is the kind of outcome we all strive for. It’s a proud moment for our entire team at Cocoon Hospital.”— Dr. Dilshad Khan, Unit Head, Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur
